I obtained my KN8UNG Novice class license in June 1960 (age 12) and have been an active ham since. My elmer was W8GGH (SK)
and he was a true friend and mentor. Through the years my interests have drifted to
DXing and building things in my workshop.
I have built and published several linear amplifiers and other homebrew equipment. I think this interest was inherited from
my father who was a tool and die maker. He was always tinkering in a large workshop full of milling machines, lathes and drill
presses. In 2006 I retired after 37 years working for a large non-profit research organization (Battelle Memorial
Institute). I started there as a software / systems engineer and ended up as a manager doing research on intelligent transportation
systems (ITS) mostly for the Department of Transportation in D.C. I graduated from Miami University in Oxford, Ohio and later
earned an MS degree from The Ohio State University. When I retired I thought I would have much more time to play radio.
That did not happen. I don't understand where the days go and I still can't get everything I want to do done. Making
my CW Paddles fills much of my time but it is a labor of love. I can get lost in time machining metals
and making things in the shop. But I still find time almost daily to fill the ionosphere with RF. Listen for me on
2 through 160 on CW (70%), SSB (20%) and RTTY/PSK31 (10%). Feel free to e-mail me anytime.
That NC-100 should could have used DSP !!!
