I have been a ham almost my entire life. I was first licensed in 1960 at age 12 with the novice call
KN8UNG and have been active ever since. I am an avid DXer and currently at #1 on the DXCC Honor Roll with 366 countries.
I also enjoy homebrewing all kinds of equipment and have published several of my projects in Ham Radio, QST and
Bill Orr's Radio Handbook. In 2005 the ARRL invited me to build an RF linear amplifier for the 2006 Handbook.
I accepted the invitation and was honored to have the amplifier appear on the cover. I also enjoy
QRP, digital modes and 2/6 meter SSB and CW as well as using refurbished old tube radios. When not holed up in my workshop
(wife calls it my cave) I have fun driving a bright red Corvette to hamfests and setting up in the flea markets.
I am now retired as of 8/2006 and spending my time doing only the things I want to do (and a few I don't for the XYL).
